The return of the sun...and my word of the year

"Within each of us there is a silence, a silence as vast as the universe. And when we experience that silence, we remember who we are."
~Gunilla Norris

As we welcomed the Winter Solstice, the sun transitioned into Capricorn (my sun sign!), and we welcomed the return of the sun!  This is a potent time for rebirth; and the slow, symbolic awakening from darkness into the light.  Our emergence from hibernation is slow, steady...deliberate.  As we stretch and grow into the next season, the sun brings with it, hope; and warms the seeds that we plant this season to burst forth and bloom in the seasons ahead.

And on the heels of the solstice, comes New Years; where we gather together to welcome in a fresh start.  A new beginning.  Reflecting on the past, we celebrate all the wonderful moments we had...and are also grateful for all we learned from the hard times in the past year.

Looking forward to the future, we express our hopes and intentions for the new year.  Showing gratitude for life and another chance to better ourselves and the world around us.  And we celebrate abundance in the new year by doing all things decadent!

What intentions will you set for the new year?  Mindfulness?  Cultivate?  Balance?  Transformation?  Surrender?  These are just a few words you could choose to empower you!  There are no rules!  But it is important to take this sacred and symbolic time, to realign our vibration; and choosing a word of intention can help empower us through the year ahead!  I chose BE PRESENT.  To be connected, and show up for every moment that life allows me to be a part of.

"The present moment is filled with joy and happiness.  If you are attentive, you will see it."~ Thich Nhat Hanh

My intention...my promise to myself.  BE PRESENT.

The words themselves are simple and powerful.  They speak of ancient wisdom and deep peace that can only be found in this moment.  Even as these words spill out in black and white, I feel that peace...and admittedly, panic.  Why?  Because I have seen the years unfold in amazing and transformational ways; deep within my spirit.  But for me, being present, REALLY present , can sometimes be a challenge.  It is always something I am working on mastering.  My nature is to cultivate; to constantly be filling up my plate, to create.  But this year...this year, I will CULTIVATE stillness...being.  I will FILL up the well of my spirit.  I will CREATE peace.  I will spend time rooting and grounding deeper into who I am.  I will tap into my heart energy and flow through each moment; living fully and embracing every moment of my life.  This is my commitment to myself and my family.

My word for this past year was "Nurture" and it served me well in many areas (the areas I chose to use it!)  But in other areas of life, I found the loopholes.  I didn't always nurture the areas that needed to be nurtured first.  For the year ahead, I chose a phrase with no excuses.  Like I said, the words are black and white.  BE PRESENT.  I am either present, or I am not.  And I choose to be present for my life.  To choose stillness, mindfulness, presence...and showing up for my life in all ways.

We are not the same as we were last year, and we won't be the same next year.  We are continually evolving.  We must release what we are in order to become who we are meant to be.  This year, let us step into a new story.  We must ask ourselves what we need to let go of this season; and what seeds we want to plant for the year ahead?

Let us take this time to set our intentions and watch as the year unfolds.  What word or words will you choose to empower you through the next turn around the sun?  I would love to hear yours!

No matter what, try to find some way to celebrate tonight...because, LIFE!  I hope everyone has a fabulous New Year!  Stay out too late, have a bonfire with friends, take yourself out to dinner!  Or stay at home in your pajamas like me, drinking wine and watching the Golden Girls!

Whatever you do...

Live, laugh, love
eat the cheesecake
have the glass of wine
have adventures
choose forgiveness, choose love, choose hope
choose life.

"May the long time sun shine upon you, ALL love surround you, and the pure LIGHT within you, guide your way on."~ Blessing
